Hey there! I'm so glad you're here. Welcome to Dopamine Detour - a space born out of a deep love for travel, an obsession with logistics, and the beautiful, loud reality of a chaotic everyday life.

I'm a full-time working Minnesota native, a wife, and a mom navigating a busy household filled with ADHD and anxiety, the mandatory picky eater, and severe dairy allergies. While daily life can feel like a circus, trip planning is my absolute therapy - I happily trade yoga for rabbit holes of allergen menus, transit routes, and custom itineraries that turn the overwhelming unknown into a seamless escape

Because I refuse to believe travel is one-size-fits-all, I pack my bags multiple times a year for trips that wildly vary in vibe. I've done the frantic family expeditions, the adult group trips, work travel, romantic couples' resets, and even quiet solo getaways. Just a quick disclaimer: I am absolutely not a camper, but I AM a glamper! There will be no pitch-black nights in tents or wrestling with sleeping bags on this blog. But literally everything else is on the table - from luxury resorts to quirky urban gems, hidden treehouses, and roadside weirdness.

As a lifelong Minnesotan, I have a massive treasure trove of insider knowledge on local vacations, hidden gem day trips, and Midwest activities. This blog is where I share my own wild travel stories, hard-earned tips for planning around ADHD, anxiety and food allergies, and where I can help you plan your own stress-free getaways. So pack your bags (and your specialty snacks) - let's trade the daily chaos for a perfect detour.

Our origin

Built to escape the algorithmic loop

I started Dopamine Detour when digital burnout finally outweighed the comfort of glowing screens. Real adventure requires unscripted turns and a willingness to get lost beyond the reach of cell towers.

Every post is based on either personal experience, research, or recommendations of others. I will explicitly note in the post if I am referencing information from a specific source. All information is as good as the time in which it was posted. I will attempt to review older posts to keep them updated but if you notice any discrepancies, please let me know and I will make updates if applicable.

The rule

Put down the feed and get lost on purpose.

The best stories always happen three miles past where the pavement ends.
